What this site collects

Reading Better Selects does not require an account, and there is nothing here to sign up for. We do not run advertising scripts, we do not embed social media trackers, and we do not set cookies to follow you between sites. There are no forms on this site, so we hold no name, email address, or payment details unless you choose to email us directly.

Server logs

The site is served by our hosting provider, which keeps standard request logs — IP address, the page requested, the time, the browser’s user-agent string, and the country the request came from. These exist so the site can be kept online and abuse can be blocked. They are not joined to any profile of you and are not sold.

When you click a product link

Product links leave this site for Amazon, and some of them pass through our own redirect first. That redirect records the outbound click: which page it came from, which product was clicked, the country, the time, and the browser’s user-agent. It exists so we can tell which pages are useful and so commissions can be attributed. It does not record your name, your email, or anything you go on to do on Amazon.

Once you arrive on Amazon you are covered by Amazon’s own privacy notice and their cookies, not ours. Amazon tells us nothing about you as an individual — affiliate reporting arrives as aggregate figures: how many items were ordered, and what the fee was.

Third parties

Three kinds of third party touch this site: our hosting provider, which serves the pages and keeps the request logs described above; Amazon, once you follow an outbound link; and the image sources credited alongside photographs. We do not use analytics products that build advertising profiles, and we do not share or sell data about readers, because we do not hold any that would be worth selling.

Your choices

You can block the outbound redirect with any content blocker and the site will still work — the product links simply stop being attributed to us. If you would like the request-log entries associated with your IP address removed, email hello@betterselects.com and we will remove what we can identify. Logs age out on their own within a few months.

Children

This site is written for adults buying household goods and electronics. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If what we collect ever changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. There is no mailing list to notify, by design.
